Truck Driver Arrested for Smuggling Nearly Two Tonnes of Dagga

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting drug trafficking and illegal drug trade following the arrest of a truck driver at Beitbridge Border Post.

The suspect, identified as 64-year-old Thapson Ndou, was allegedly caught attempting to smuggle nearly two tonnes of dagga into the country. Police said the recovered drugs have an estimated street value of US$210,800.

Authorities have also seized the haulage truck, registration number AGK 0535, which was allegedly used to transport the illicit consignment.

The ZRP said investigations are continuing as detectives work to identify and arrest other individuals who may have been involved in the smuggling operation.

Police warned that they will continue to intensify efforts to combat drug peddling and trafficking, stressing that there will be no retreat in the fight against illegal drugs in Zimbabwe.
