Financial services group CBZ Holdings has contributed US$15,000 towards Team Zimbabwe’s preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, supporting the delegation with official clothing and other preparations ahead of the competition.
Zimbabwe will send an 11-member team to Senegal for the Games, which will be held from October 31 to November 13, 2026.
The Dakar event will be historic as it will be the first Summer Youth Olympic Games to be staged on African soil.
Speaking at the unveiling of Team Zimbabwe’s official kit in Harare, CBZ Holdings Group Chief Executive Officer Lawrence Nyazema said supporting young athletes was an investment in the country’s sporting future.
“Dakar is a special occasion,” Nyazema said, highlighting that the Games are aimed at athletes aged between 14 and 17.
“What does it mean to us? It means we are building for the future. I look forward to the same athletes who are going to Dakar converting into senior Olympians in 2028 in Los Angeles, [and] in 2032 in Brisbane.”
Zimbabwe Olympic Committee president Thabani Gonye welcomed CBZ’s contribution, saying the partnership demonstrated confidence in the country’s young athletes and the development of sport.
“Your decision to partner with us is a powerful endorsement of Zimbabwean sport,” Gonye said.
“You have shown that you believe in our athletes, in their resilience, and in their ability to carry the flag of Zimbabwe with pride on the continental and global stage.”
The financial support comes as Team Zimbabwe steps up preparations for the Games, with the delegation hoping to make a strong impression at the historic event.
