The Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa School of Nursing at Muduvuri Pan African Hospital has officially opened in Kadoma, adding a private registered general nursing training institution to Zimbabwe’s healthcare and professional training sector.
The school was officially opened by First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa and is expected to create training opportunities for aspiring nurses while contributing to the development of healthcare professionals in the country.
Muduvuri Pan African Hospital founder and director Jimayi Muduvuri said the nursing school was established as part of his continued investment in healthcare and professional training.
“Today we are not only looking at treating people; we are investing in human capital. We want young Zimbabweans to acquire skills, build careers and ultimately serve their communities,” Muduvuri said.
He said his investment in healthcare was also influenced by the assistance he received from President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the First Lady during his medical challenges.
“What you see here today is a product of inspiration. President Mnangagwa’s heart of gold changed my life. When I was struggling with serious injuries and facing the possibility of losing my legs, he reached out and assisted me when I desperately needed help. Amai Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa also stood by me,” he said.
Muduvuri sustained serious injuries to both legs in a truck accident in Gokwe in 1989 and spent several years seeking specialised medical treatment.
He said that in 2006, President Mnangagwa, who was then a Cabinet minister, facilitated financial assistance that enabled him to access specialised treatment in South Africa after he had exhausted much of his financial resources.
Muduvuri also said President Mnangagwa and Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa visited him at his home in Kadoma during his recovery.
In 2018, he said the President again assisted him when he faced financial difficulties while undergoing another complex medical procedure in South Africa.
Muduvuri said these experiences inspired him to expand his involvement in healthcare and community development.
“I learnt that when God gives you another opportunity in life, you must use it to uplift others,” he said.
Construction of Muduvuri Pan African Hospital began in 2020 and was completed in 2022 before the facility was officially commissioned by President Mnangagwa.
Muduvuri has since established clinics in several parts of Zimbabwe.
The opening of the nursing school expands the institution’s role from healthcare provision to the training of nursing professionals, providing another pathway for young Zimbabweans seeking careers in the healthcare sector.
