Catholic priest Father Regis Chikuni, who had been missing for several days, has been found dead at Parirenyatwa Hospital, the Archdiocese of Harare has confirmed.
The Archdiocese announced his death on Wednesday, with Archbishop’s Secretary Father Ephraim Murwira saying the priest was found at the hospital mortuary.
“It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we announce the passing on of our beloved brother, Father Regis Chikuni,” Murwira said.
The circumstances leading to Chikuni’s death, as well as the cause of death, remain unclear.
His disappearance had raised concern within the Catholic community, prompting the Archdiocese to appeal for prayers and notify the police.
Authorities were assisting with efforts to establish his whereabouts before he was eventually found at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
