Four people are dead and 12 others injured following a horrific head-on collision along the Roy-Buffalo Range Road on Friday night, police have confirmed.
The crash occurred at the 120-kilometre peg at approximately 2000 hours when a Toyota Hilux carrying nine passengers and heading towards Zaka collided head-on with a Nissan AD Van travelling towards Chiredzi with five passengers on board.
The victims’ bodies have been taken to Chiredzi General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the tragedy.
“A fatal road traffic accident occurred at the 120 kilometre peg along Roy-Buffalo Range Road on 28 August 2026 at approximately 2000 hours involving a Toyota Hilux vehicle travelling towards Zaka carrying nine passengers and a Nissan AD Van travelling towards Chiredzi carrying five passengers,” said Nyathi.
The injured are receiving medical attention at local hospitals. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the country’s roads.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
