A Gokwe man, Edviva Muchena (46), has been sentenced by the High Court of Zimbabwe sitting in Gokwe to life imprisonment for the murd@r of 29-year-old Sambulelo Letha.

According to a statement issued by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Muchena was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal killing of Letha.

“On 1 August 2025, at Gokwe Old GMB Forest in Gokwe South, Midlands Province, the offender, who was the deceased’s boyfriend, confronted her while she was returning home and insisted on discussing personal matters in private.

During the confrontation, the offender stabbed her multiple times in the neck with an Okapi knife, causing her to bleed to death at the scene,” said the NPA statement.

Community members raised the alarm after the victim failed to arrive home. Police officers from ZRP Gokwe attended the scene, where they recovered the deceased’s body and the murd@r weapon.

A post-mortem examination conducted at United Bulawayo Hospitals confirmed that death resulted from acute cardiorespiratory failure, hemorrhagic shock, and lacerated neck vessels. The Court described the attack as brutal, premeditated, and senseless, especially given the vulnerability of the victim.
