The Department of Presidential Communications has issued a strong warning to the public over individuals fraudulently claiming to represent Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi Chiwenga.

According to the department, the suspects are involved in illegal activities such as requesting money, services, and sensitive personal information from unsuspecting members of the public, including foreigners.

In a statement released on Tuesday, March 17, Presidential spokesperson George Charamba revealed that the scammers are using different communication platforms, particularly phone numbers from South Africa and Nigeria, to carry out their schemes. Authorities warned that these actions are deliberate and malicious, urging citizens to remain alert.

Charamba stressed the need for the public to verify any communication claiming to come from the Vice President or his family. He explained that all official business involving the Vice President’s Office follows formal procedures and is handled by authorised personnel only.

The department also clarified that neither the Vice President nor his wife operates official accounts on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Any accounts claiming to represent them or share their views are fake and should be ignored.

Investigations have identified several phone numbers linked to the impersonation attempts, including:
+234 8083483315
+234 7038120794
+277 25956982

Authorities are currently working with telecommunications regulators in both Nigeria and South Africa to track down and prosecute those responsible.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious messages or impersonation attempts to the relevant authorities. Official reporting channels include the Zimbabwe Republic Police and government offices.

The advisory serves as an important reminder for citizens to remain cautious and to always confirm the authenticity of communications linked to senior government officials.
