A 28‑year‑old man has been arrested for the brutal murder of his friend, in a case that has sent shockwaves through the capital after police revealed the suspect allegedly cut the victim’s throat and sucked his blood.
Shepherd Severa was taken into custody following the discovery of a blood‑stained Toyota Aqua (registration number AGO 2804) at Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare in the early hours of 19 May 2026.
National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said investigations led detectives to a shallow grave at the same cemetery, where the body of Brian Nandana was exhumed.
Commissioner Nyathi described the chilling details of the killing
“The suspect allegedly confessed to killing his friend, Brian Nandana, by cutting his throat with a kitchen knife before sucking his blood.”
Police said the victim’s body bore a deep cut on the neck and a scar on the back of the head. Severa, who was friends with Nandana, reportedly led officers to the grave after his arrest.
Commissioner Nyathi added that the vehicle’s location and the suspect’s confession were key to cracking the case.
“Following the recovery of the blood‑stained vehicle at Warren Hills Cemetery, subsequent police investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, who allegedly confessed to the murder.”
Authorities confirmed that full investigations into the circumstances of the killing are ongoing, and more details will be released in due course.
Commissioner Nyathi assured the public that the police are committed to ensuring justice is served.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
