Inmates joined golfers and other stakeholders at the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Commissioner-General’s Goodwill Trust Fund Golf Tournament held at Harry Allen Golf Club on September 19, 2026.
The tournament was organised to raise support for vulnerable members of the ZPCS family and communities.
Local businessman Jabulani Nkomo, who was the guest of honour, officially teed off the tournament, which also featured inmates among the participating golfers.
Speaking at the end of the event, ZPCS Commissioner-General Dr Moses Cyril Ngawaite Chihobvu, through Commissioner Sikhulekile Ndlovu, said the tournament demonstrated the ability of sport to unite people for a common cause.
“Today has demonstrated that sport can bring people together around a purpose greater than competition,” Dr Chihobvu said.
The Commissioner-General’s Goodwill Trust Fund was established to assist orphans of deceased ZPCS officers.
The Fund has so far supported 453 beneficiaries, with 271 having completed their education. Seven beneficiaries are currently at tertiary level, while 79 are at secondary school and 96 are at primary level.
Some beneficiaries who completed their studies have since joined the ZPCS.
The Fund has also assisted other vulnerable groups, including people living with albinism, child-headed families and people with disabilities.
Its support has included food and farming inputs, sunscreen, wheelchairs, artificial limbs and assistance to the ZPCS staff hospital.
Dr Chihobvu thanked the Officer Commanding Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Commissioner Mkhulunyelwa Ngwenya, as well as the organisers, golfers, partners and other stakeholders for supporting the tournament and the Fund’s programmes.
