The Government has officially declared September 15 a public holiday to be known as Munhumutapa Day.
The declaration was made through Statutory Instrument 148 of 2026, published in the Zimbabwean Government Gazette Extraordinary dated September 9, 2026.
According to the notice, President Emmerson Mnangagwa made the declaration in terms of Section 2(2) of the Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Act [Chapter 10:21].
The statutory instrument states that September 15 of every year will henceforth be observed as a public holiday under the name Munhumutapa Day.
The notice reads: “It is hereby declared that the 15th of September every year henceforth, shall be a public holiday to be known as Munhumutapa Day.”
The new holiday will therefore be observed annually, adding September 15 to Zimbabwe’s calendar of public holidays.
The declaration was gazetted on September 9, 2026, under Statutory Instrument 148 of 2026.
