Moonlight Provident Staff Face Hardship After Five Months Without Pay

The Zimbabwe Funeral Services & Assurance Workers Union (ZIMFAWU) has formally approached the National Employment Council (NEC) for the funeral sector, citing the prolonged non-payment of salaries to staff members at Moonlight Provident & Associates.

The union reports that employees have not received their wages for a period of seven months.

In correspondence addressed to the NEC and dated June 5, 2026, ZIMFAWU characterized the situation as a direct violation of both the National Employment Council (Funeral Industry) Collective Bargaining Agreement and Section 12 of the Labour Act [Chapter 28:01].

Farai Simoko, the secretary-general of ZIMFAWU, highlighted the severe impact of the company’s failure to disburse salaries since October 2025, noting that numerous families are now facing significant financial hardship.

The union has called upon the NEC to launch an investigation into the matter, mandate the employer to clear all outstanding remuneration, and guarantee adherence to labor legislation moving forward. ZIMFAWU further emphasized that companies within the funeral industry are obligated to process salary payments by the final day of each month.

ZIMFAWU issued a caution that persistent non-compliance not only compromises the rights of workers but also contravenes the established collective bargaining framework of the industry.

An urgent appeal has been made by the union to the NEC, underscoring the critical nature of the issue and the well-being of many families dependent on these wages.
