Mutapa Gold Resources has commissioned the US$3 million Masembura Water Pipeline Project, a development expected to improve water supplies in Bindura and surrounding communities.
The project, which was funded by Mutapa Gold Resources and Bindura Municipality, includes a 500 cubic metre balancing tank, an 18-kilometre pipeline supplying the company’s operations and a 22.1-kilometre pipeline connecting to the Bindura Municipality Water Treatment Plant.
Traditional leader Chief Musana welcomed the project, saying it would help address longstanding water challenges affecting residents.
Chief Musana said residents had for years received estimated water bills from Bindura Municipality despite unreliable supplies.
He said the new infrastructure would improve access to clean and reliable water while allowing residents to pay for water based on their actual consumption.
“This project will go a long way in addressing the water challenges faced by our people,” Chief Musana said.
He added that residents should benefit from a more reliable water supply and a fairer billing system.
Mutapa Gold Resources chief executive officer Patrick Maseva-Shayawabaya said the infrastructure had been designed to serve both the mining operation and surrounding communities.
“The infrastructure was designed to benefit both the mine and surrounding communities,” Maseva-Shayawabaya said.
The project is expected to strengthen water delivery capacity in the area while supporting the needs of the mining operation.
The Masembura Water Pipeline Project was officially commissioned by Mashonaland Central Minister of State Christopher Magomo.
The development comes as authorities and private sector players continue to explore infrastructure projects aimed at improving access to essential services in mining communities.
