Pacific Cigarettes Partners RTG Mountain Valley Marathon

Pacific Cigarettes has partnered with Rainbow Tourism Group

Pacific Cigarettes has partnered with Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) for the inaugural RTG Mountain Valley Marathon, with the event set to take place in the Eastern Highlands on September 26, 2026.

The marathon, being held under the theme “Mountain Valley Marathon with Pacific Breeze,” is expected to combine fitness, wellness, entertainment and tourism, with organisers anticipating up to 1,500 participants.

The winners of the 21-kilometre main race will each receive US$750, with both the male and female winners also earning a two-night bed-and-breakfast stay for two at an RTG hotel of their choice.

Second-place finishers will receive US$500 each and a two-night stay for two, while third-place runners will take home US$350 each together with meal vouchers for two.

A senior category has also been introduced, with the first male and female senior finishers set to receive US$250 each and accommodation vouchers for two.

Pacific Marketing Manager Kudakwashe Chiutsi said the partnership with RTG was part of a broader wellness initiative aimed at bringing together sport, entertainment and communities.

RTG Chief Commercial Officer Shupai Marwe said the marathon is also intended to showcase the Eastern Highlands as a major tourism destination, highlighting the region’s scenery, accessibility and developing hospitality infrastructure.

RTG expanded its presence in the Eastern Highlands in 2025 after acquiring Montclair Resort and Conference Centre. The group has since invested about US$2 million in upgrading the property, increasing its room capacity from 85 to 110.

The company has also refurbished Nyanga Town and Glacier Resort Apartments to increase accommodation options for visitors attending the event and exploring the region.

Musabvunda CEO Kudzai Pasipanodya said interest in the marathon had grown significantly from the initial target of about 300 runners, with participation now expected to reach 1,500.

The event is expected to provide runners with a competitive sporting platform while also giving the Eastern Highlands an opportunity to promote its tourism attractions.
