President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for greater access to affordable development finance and technology transfer, saying poverty, inequality and debt pressures continue to constrain developing countries.
In a statement posted on X marking the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development, President Mnangagwa urged stronger international solidarity and meaningful participation by developing nations.
He said climate change and unequal access to technology were also limiting their development prospects.
“Zimbabwe therefore calls for strengthened international solidarity, greater access to affordable development finance, technology transfer and meaningful participation of developing countries,” he said.
Mnangagwa said the declaration affirmed development as a human right, with every individual and nation entitled to participate in and benefit from it.
Forty years on, he said, that principle remained relevant as developing countries continued to face economic, social and environmental challenges.
The statement did not outline specific financing proposals or measures to facilitate technology transfer.
