President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to address the 81st United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, 24 September, at around 3pm Zimbabwean time, according to the Ministry of Information.
His address during the morning session of the High-Level General Debate comes as Zimbabwe prepares to take up a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. The country was elected for a two-year term beginning 1 January 2027.
This year’s General Assembly theme is “Restoring trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all.” The debate gives world leaders a platform to set out their positions on international challenges and the UN’s response.
The Ministry said the address would be an opportunity for Zimbabwe to strengthen international cooperation and advance its priorities on the global stage. Attention will now turn to what commitments Mnangagwa makes ahead of the country’s Security Council term.
