The Mbare Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced a 57-year-old security guard from Highfields to 20 years in prison for raping a 14-year-old female juvenile who resided at the same property.

The offender abused the trust and access he gained while living as a tenant at the victim’s residence, initiating a sexual relationship with her when she was 12 years old.

The abuse occurred between January 2024 and November 2025.

The court heard that the man frequently invited the juvenile into his room under the guise of helping with household chores, where they subsequently engaged in repeated sexual intercourse.

“Between January 2024 and November 2025, the offender abused the trust and access he gained while living as a tenant at the victim’s residence,” the court heard during proceedings.

The matter came to light on 17 April 2026 when the victim’s guardian grew suspicious that the juvenile was pregnant. The guardian discovered text conversations between the offender and the victim on her mobile phone.

A report was made at ZRP Machipisa the following day, leading to the offender’s arrest. The survivor was medically examined and the medical report was presented in court as evidence.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said it continues to send a strong message of deterrence against child sexual abuse and the deliberate transmission of life-threatening viruses to minors.

“We remain committed to protecting the rights, health, and futures of Zimbabwe’s children,” NPAZ said.
