A CAF D Coaching Course brought together some of Zimbabwe’s well-known football figures yesterday at Milton High School in Bulawayo, where national coaching educator Dr Joseph Sibindi is conducting an intensive training programme aimed at strengthening grassroots coaching.

The course which runs throughout the week is designed to equip aspiring and current coaches with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required in modern football coaching. It has attracted a diverse group of participants, including former players, current Division One coaches, club officials and match officials.

Among the notable former professionals in attendance are Energy Murambadoro, Raphael Tafadzwa Kutinyu, Canaan Nkomo, Guide Goddard, Ben Nyahuzvi, Benson Phiri, and Ocena Mpofu, all of whom are transitioning into coaching and technical roles within the game.

The class also features Mainline FC’s Division One coach Siza Mguni, junior development coach Roy Cele of Highlanders, Heritein Masuku of Talen Vision, Chicken Inn secretary general Tavengwa Hara, referee Christina Mpanza, and grassroots football figures such as Junior Takavarasha and Dinho (Loverty).

Dr Sibindi said the course aims to bridge knowledge gaps at lower levels of the game, ensuring young players receive quality instruction from properly trained coaches. Participants will undergo both theoretical sessions and practical assessments before receiving CAF-accredited certification.

The programme is part of a wider national effort to improve coaching standards and strengthen the talent pipeline feeding into elite football structures.
