Zimbabwe Elected to UN Tourism Executive Council, Showcases AI-Driven Tourism Vision
Zimbabwe has strengthened its global standing in the tourism sector after being elected to the United Nations Tourism Executive Council for the period 2025 to 2029, a development that underscores the country’s growing leadership in international tourism governance.
The announcement was made during the 26th Session of the UN Tourism General Assembly currently underway in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
As part of its participation, Zimbabwe took part in a High-Level Policy Debate on “Transforming Tourism Through Artificial Intelligence”, where it outlined its ongoing efforts to integrate AI and digital innovation into the national tourism value chain.
The country emphasized that these initiatives are in line with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into “a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income economy” driven by knowledge, innovation, and sustainability.
Officials revealed that Zimbabwe is developing AI-powered digital platforms designed to improve the destination’s visibility through immersive virtual experiences of major attractions such as Victoria Falls and the Great Zimbabwe Monuments, thereby expanding global access to the nation’s tourism offerings.
In addition to its Executive Council election, Zimbabwe also expressed interest in joining the UN Tourism Task Team on Tourism Statistics, an initiative aimed at enhancing national data systems to support evidence-based planning and policy formulation.
The latest recognition positions Zimbabwe at the forefront of global tourism transformation, with a focus on sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation as the key pillars for future growth.
