Zimbabwe Tobacco Revenue Nears US$733 Million as Sales Exceed 290 Million Kilograms

Zimbabwe’s 2026 tobacco marketing season continues to gain momentum, with growers delivering more than 290 million kilograms of tobacco and earning close to US$733 million by Day 59 of the selling season, ending 29 May.

Latest figures from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) show that a total of 290.53 million kilograms had been sold, generating approximately US$732.8 million in revenue.

Of this volume, auction floors handled 22.09 million kilograms, which fetched an average price of US$1.82 per kilogram and brought in around US$40.2 million.

Contract sales dominated the market, accounting for 268.44 million kilograms sold at an average price of US$2.58 per kilogram, generating roughly US$692.6 million.

Overall, the average selling price for the season stands at US$2.52 per kilogram.

Although tobacco deliveries have risen substantially compared to the same period last year, growers are receiving lower prices.

By Day 59 of the 2025 marketing season, farmers had sold 249.13 million kilograms at a stronger average price of US$3.37 per kilogram.

The current season has recorded an increase of about 41.4 million kilograms in sales volumes compared to 2025, reflecting higher production levels and stronger deliveries to the market despite a decline in average prices.
