A 28-year-old Zimbabwean national has been remanded in custody in Botswana after he was allegedly found in possession of suspected human remains.
Nyasha Mudzongeri appeared before the Francistown Magistrates Court on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, facing two charges.
He is accused of entering Botswana through an unauthorised entry point without the required travel documents and unlawfully possessing suspected human flesh or remains.
Mudzongeri was arrested by officers from Gerald Police on September 13 near Shashe Mooke Village.
According to the Botswana Police Service, the suspect identified himself to investigators as a spiritual healer following his arrest.
Police said suspected human remains and other items recovered during the investigation have since been submitted to the Botswana Police Service Forensic Science Services Laboratory for examination.
The forensic analysis is expected to establish the identity and nature of the material recovered and determine whether it is of human origin. The results could also assist investigators in establishing how the remains came into the suspect’s possession.
Mudzongeri was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on September 18 as police continue with investigations.
