A 25-year-old Zimbabwean e-hailing driver was rescued by South African police in Cape Town after allegedly being kidnapped and s@xually assaulted by two women.
The incident reportedly occurred in Steenberg after the driver went to meet a woman he had previously encountered while working as an Uber driver.
Instead, police say he was allegedly seized by a group comprising two women and three men.
The suspects are reported to have contacted one of the victim’s relatives and demanded R4,000 in exchange for his release.
Police subsequently launched an operation to locate the driver and traced his vehicle to Southampton Road in Heathfield, where officers found him and secured his release.
Two women, aged 23 and 34, were arrested alongside three male suspects aged 16, 42 and 48.
The five suspects are expected to appear before the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September 14, 2026, facing charges related to the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault.
The investigation is continuing.
