Zimbabwe’s Under-15 boys and girls sides delivered a dominant statement of intent on Match Day 1 of the African Schools Football Championship: COSAFA Qualifier, recording four victories from four matches and firmly announcing themselves as early favourites.
The Young Warriors kicked off their campaign with a hard-fought 2–1 win over Mozambique, showcasing resilience and tactical maturity. Goals on either side of the break sealed the opener, setting the tone for a confident outing later in the day.
In the afternoon fixture, the boys returned with even greater composure, defeating Namibia 2–0 to complete a flawless start. M. Bote struck in the 18th minute before J. Bushiri doubled the lead on the half hour mark, capping off a performance defined by discipline and teamwork.
Not to be outdone, the U15 girls produced an equally emphatic opening. They began the day with a commanding 6–1 demolition of Mozambique, a match filled with attacking flair, clinical finishing, and relentless pressure that overwhelmed their opponents.
Their momentum carried straight into the second match, where they sealed another convincing win, beating Namibia 3–0. D. Mapuwa opened the scoring inside four minutes, while L. Jaravani netted twice before halftime to secure maximum points and underline Zimbabwe’s superiority.
With both teams ending the day unbeaten and full of confidence, Zimbabwe’s prospects in the regional competition look bright. Their blend of talent, structure, and hunger for success has quickly become one of the standout stories in South Africa.
