Former Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi has been acquitted by the High Court in a corruption case that has now been concluded.

The ruling brings an end to legal proceedings that saw Mzembi spend close to a year in remand prison before he was later granted bail of US$1,000 pending trial.

Mzembi was accused of distributing outdoor television sets, which had reportedly been bought for US$2 million for 2010 FIFA World Cup fan parks, to several churches without approval from Treasury or Cabinet.

The churches mentioned in the case included Zion Church of Christ, UFIC, and PHD Ministries.

The High Court has now cleared him of all charges.
