Prominent traditional healer and spirit medium Gogo Chihoro, whose real name is Memory Madamburi, is set to host her birthday celebrations on 21 August at Kwa Memo in Mt Darwin, where family, friends, followers and well-wishers are expected to gather to mark the special occasion.
The event will feature performances from popular Zimdancehall musicians, including Freeman, Shinsoman, Guspy Warrior, Culture Love, Herman, Gidza Boy and other artistes.
Speaking to Hurumende News Hub Lifestyle ahead of her birthday celebrations, Gogo Chihoro said the event will be held in her home area of Mt Darwin, where she traces her roots, as a way of bringing together people from different communities to celebrate her life and journey.
“I chose for my birthday to be celebrated at my rural home because it is the place where I come from. I want to honour my roots, and that is why I chose to hold my celebrations there.
“The late Oliver Mtukudzi always said, ‘Be proud of where you come from.’ That is why I decided to celebrate at my rural home because Ku Dande ndokwangu (Ku Dande is my home),” she said.
Gogo Chihoro, who has built a strong following in Zimbabwe’s traditional and cultural circles, recently hosted an all-night spiritual gathering in Bulawayo amid growing demand for her services across the country.
The gathering, held at her Woodville Park shrine, attracted hundreds of people seeking spiritual guidance, cleansing and protection.
Her son, Gidza Boy, will also be part of the birthday celebrations. Gidza Boy is a talented upcoming artiste who has been making his mark in the local music scene, showcasing his passion for music and entertainment.
The young musician has been steadily building his profile, with his performances earning him recognition among emerging artistes in Zimbabwe.
The birthday celebrations are expected to combine music, culture and entertainment, with Freeman set to headline the star-studded line-up.
