Transport and Infrastructural Development Deputy Minister, Hon. Joshua Kurt Sacco, yesterday led a media tour to assess progress on the ongoing Harare–Masvingo–Beitbridge highway project, one of Zimbabwe’s most transformative infrastructure undertakings.

The Minister visited key construction points including the Mucheke River Bridge, the Chimusana Bridge, and the site earmarked for the new flyover near Masvingo Polytechnic College, where a trumpet interchange is set to be constructed.

The planned grade-separated interchange will allow traffic travelling along the Harare–Beitbridge route to bypass the Masvingo Central Business District, significantly easing congestion and improving travel efficiency.

Hon. Sacco highlighted the strategic importance of the project, noting that its completion will not only enhance domestic mobility but also strengthen Zimbabwe’s connectivity within the Southern African region.

“The Harare–Beitbridge highway is a lifeline for our economy and trade. Once completed, it will greatly enhance regional integration and make Zimbabwe a key transport corridor for the movement of goods and people.

The the government has accelerated works on the remaining sections, including the stretch around Ngundu, to ensure the project’s timely completion and realization of the Second Republic’s vision of a modern, seamless national road network, ” said Hon. Sacco.

The Harare–Masvingo–Beitbridge highway, a flagship project under the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), remains central to Zimbabwe’s goal of achieving a modernized and efficient transport infrastructure that supports economic growth, trade, and investment.
