The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released a list of vehicle registration numbers captured through the Electronic Traffic Management System (ETMS) for violating red traffic lights in Harare’s Central Business District.

In a statement, the police advised all vehicle owners whose registration numbers appear on the list to report to their nearest police station within the next seven days. The move is part of ongoing investigations into traffic offences recorded by the automated system.

“The vehicle owners and those currently in possession of the listed vehicles are urged to cooperate with the police in order to assist in the maintenance of law and order in the country,” said the policestatement.

The ETMS was introduced to improve traffic management and enhance road safety by automatically detecting offences such as speeding and ignoring traffic lights. Authorities say the system is critical in reducing road accidents and enforcing discipline on the roads.

Motorists are reminded to observe traffic regulations at all times to avoid penalties and ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the city.

Secretary of the Zimbabwe Traditional Healers Association Dr Belinda Magida who was among the Zimbabwe delegation to the 2025 Hong Kong International traditional Chinese Medicine Expo has urged the government to invest more in ancient medicines so as to capacitate the existing use of traditional medicines which is beneficial to the country.

Dr Magida who is the founder of Rootlife Herbal Surgery which specialises in ancient medicines was speaking to journalists soon after landing at the Robert Mugabe International  Airport in HARARE from the nine-day ancient medicine exhibition held in Hong Kong, this Thursday.

She also said their attendance to the annual exhibition highlights the strides the country is making in advancing the use of traditional medicine, where local herbs were very popular with the delegates.

“Our local herbs are very important and are highly revered in other countries such as China who ironically put ahead their own ancient medicines ahead of modern medicines,” she said.

“We took with us local ancient cancer treatment herbs as well as sexual enhancement drugs which proved to be a hit among the delegates”.

DR Magida said our local herbs are very powerful as was witnessed in Hong Kong but what lacks is the technical aspect in packaging as well as extracting the herbs from the source.

“Moden expensive medicines coming from outside the country are extracted from our own local  herbs and if thegovernment can invest in the processing of local ancient herbs, the more the country benefits by lowering the import bill on medicines”, she said.

Ancient traditional herbs are critically important in Zimbabwe for primary healthcare, treating diverse conditions such asgastro-intestinal disorders and malaria, as well as contributing to the community health and cultural practices.

These herbs are a vital resource, especially for rural populations, and also hold potential for the discovery of new pharmaceuticals and the preservation of Indigenous Knowledge System.

Lieutenant Colonel Grace Muriri has made history in the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) as the first woman to lead the 52 Infantry Battalion since the nation gained independence in 1980.

The 5.2 Infantry Battalion, also known as the Burning Spear and based in Battlefields, Midlands Province, reached a milestone with Muriri’s appointment, which reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to gender inclusion and the promotion of women in leadership roles within the security sector.

Muriri succeeds Lieutenant Colonel Tongai Hove, who now commands the 3 Presidential Guards Battalion following his tenure at the 5.2 Infantry Battalion, where he oversaw several operations aimed at maintaining order across the country.

“During my time with the 5.2 Infantry Battalion, we conducted multiple operations including Operation Hakudzokwi Phase 64 in Chiyadzwa, Operation No to Riverbed Mining, and Exercise Mbada Inoruma. I commend the officers and soldiers of 52 Infantry for their dedication. Together, we strengthened our unity and operational effectiveness. Today, the Burning Spear stands as a symbol of the resilience and strength of the community it serves,” said outgoing commander, Lieutenant Colonel Tongai Hove.

At the handover ceremony, Brigadier General Lawrence Munzwararikwa, commander of the Fifth Infantry Brigade, urged the battalion to fully support the new leadership. “I congratulate Lieutenant Colonel Muriri on her promotion and appointment. With your expertise, I am confident you will build on your predecessor’s achievements and take the unit to greater heights. Respect the traditions of the battalion while embracing innovative approaches to enhance effectiveness and resilience,” he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Muriri expressed readiness to lead the battalion, highlighting the importance of discipline, unity, and teamwork. “Our strength comes not only from individual skills but also from our ability to work collectively toward shared objectives. We must remain resolute in adversity, support each other, and foster trust and collaboration.

“I reaffirm our commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards. Every action we take will uphold integrity, honour, and respect. Training and operational readiness will remain top priorities to ensure the battalion continues to perform at the highest level,” Muriri said.

The ZNA is charged with safeguarding national peace and protecting Zimbabwe’s territorial integrity, and Muriri’s appointment marks a significant step forward in diversifying leadership within the country’s elite military units.
