Ministry distances itself from fake youth stands applications
By Anisha Hungwe
The Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities issued a warning on their social media platform today about fraudulent youth stands applications circulating online.
The ministry’s secretary, Engineer T.K. Chinyanga, emphasized in a press release that official application forms are available for free on the ministry’s website or at its offices. He urged the public to be cautious and avoid falling victim to scams perpetrated by the RedRev Youth Empowerment Fund.
The fraudulent organization is targeting young people on social media, enticing them to register for a waiting list and pay a fee for the application form. The ministry has strongly condemned these deceptive tactics and advised the public to exercise caution when dealing with such offers.
In August, 3 people were arrested for defrauding the city of Harare of 178 residential stands with the aim of selling them illegally. The accused formed a fake cooperative called “Sunungukai Housing Pay Scheme” and used a forged registration certificate to apply for the land.
