A 32-year-old man from Kuwadzana has been jailed and banned from driving for two years after being convicted of reckless driving and driving without a licence.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the Harare Magistrates’ Court found Oscar Ngonidzashe Mushangazhike (32) guilty of the offences.

“On 9 September 2025, at around 15:30 hours, Ngonidzashe was driving at high speed against oncoming traffic along Kenneth Kaunda Avenue, a marked one-way road in Harare’s Central Business District. He sideswiped another vehicle, causing an accident. Police attended the scene and discovered he did not possess a valid driver’s licence.

He was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for reckless driving, with six months suspended for five years, leaving him to serve an effective 12 months behind bars. For driving without a licence, he was fined USD 80 and prohibited from driving for 24 months,” said the NPAZ statement.

“Reckless driving is a significant concern, and countless lives have been lost on our roads. The criminal justice system will not hesitate to deal with drivers who endanger the lives of others,” the NPAZ emphasised.
