Nurses at Mpilo Bulawayo Launch Ward Competition to Boost Patient Care

In a bid to elevate patient care and teamwork, nurses and staff at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo embarked on a ward competition on Friday.

“This competition was a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our skills and dedication,” said Cde Sicelesile Ngwenya  who is in the National Executive for Children of Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association (CZLWVA), who works at Mpilo. “We’re not just competing against each other; we’re striving for excellence in patient care.” 

The competition aimed to promote excellence in healthcare delivery, encourage collaboration among nurses, staff, and recognize outstanding performance. Participating wards were assessed on criteria, such as, patient satisfaction, hygiene standards, and staff professionalism. 

“As C ward nurses, we played a vital role in supporting our patients’ recovery journey,” the sister in Charge for ward C3  emphasized. “This competition will motivate us to go above and beyond, ensuring our patients receive the best possible care.” 

The competition was held with winners announced in various categories. Prizes include trophies, certificates, and recognition at the hospital’s annual awards ceremony. 

“We’re committed to providing top-notch care, and this initiative will help us achieve that goal,” said the Nursing Services Manager. “Our nurses are the backbone of our healthcare team, and this competition celebrates their hard work and dedication.”

Nurses are critical to Mpilo’s healthcare team, providing essential support to registered nurses and patients. This competition fosters a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement.  Also Cde Nkosinati Ndlovu who is the incoming Chairman For Children of Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association won a ward  for B ward at Mpilo Hospital.
