Zimbabwe reaffirmed its commitment to ending violence against children through a press briefing to be held today (October 28, 2024). The event, organized by the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare (MPSLSW) in collaboration with UNICEF and WHO, precedes Zimbabwe’s participation in the Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children.

Globally, one billion children face physical, emotional, or sexual violence annually, severely violating their rights and posing risks to future health and social challenges. Zimbabwe recognizes the urgent need to eliminate violence against children, ensuring a safer future. The country’s efforts focus on strengthening laws, policies, and services to protect children.

The briefing  is aimed at highlighting Zimbabwe’s policy and legal stance against violence, demonstrating its firm commitment. As a Pathfinder country since 2019, Zimbabwe aims to achieve Target 16.2 of the Sustainable Development Goals. Efforts align with Africa’s Agenda for Children 2040 and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, creating a continent fit for children.

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare emphasized the government’s dedication to protecting children. UNICEF and WHO representatives reiterated support for Zimbabwe’s initiatives. The press briefing marks a crucial step in Zimbabwe’s journey to safeguard its children.
