Fraud-Accused Elizabeth Parerenyatwa Now Faces Multiple Criminal Cases

The Phoenix Trust has launched legal proceedings against Elizabeth Parerenyatwa and the Master of the High Court, accusing Parerenyatwa of fraudulently securing her appointment as executor dative of the estate of the late Brian James Rhodes.

The Phoenix Trust alleges that she used fake documents and a defective power of attorney to gain control over the deceased’s properties.

The case, which recently came before the High Court, was postponed to September 18 to give Parerenyatwa time to secure new legal counsel after her previous attorneys withdrew their representation.

This latest court development comes on the heels of another legal defeat for Parerenyatwa. Two businessmen, Brian Murphy and Adam Wood, whom she had accused of fraud and giving false information to authorities, were acquitted after the court found no evidence connecting them to the charges.

In a separate criminal matter, Parerenyatwa is facing charges of forgery and obstruction of justice. She is expected to return to court on remand.

Court records reveal that Parerenyatwa had previously lived on the properties at the centre of the dispute but was legally evicted after failing to pay rent for several years. This history, according to the Phoenix Trust, casts doubt on her credibility and motives in seeking control of the estate.

Under cross-examination by defence attorney Mr. Kudzayi Kadzere, Parerenyatwa reportedly struggled to dispute key facts, including previous High Court rulings that sided with the Phoenix Trust.

The court also heard claims that Parerenyatwa unlawfully collected rental payments from tenants legally occupying the properties, despite having no legal authority to do so.

The case continues to unfold, with more proceedings expected in the coming months as the legal battle over the Rhodes estate intensifies.
