President Emmerson Mnangagwa has left Zimbabwe for South Africa, where he will take part in the 2025 Liberation Movements Summit—a key regional gathering aimed at strengthening ties among Southern Africa’s former liberation parties.

The summit, themed “Defending the Liberation Gains, Advancing Integrated Socio-Economic Development, Strengthening Solidarity for a Better Africa,” brings together leaders from historic liberation movements to exchange ideas and coordinate on current and future socio-economic and political challenges.

President Mnangagwa’s participation highlights Zimbabwe’s ongoing commitment to fostering regional solidarity and advancing collective development goals.

The event is expected to provide a platform for member states to reaffirm shared values, discuss development strategies, and enhance cooperation across the region.

Zimbabwe will be represented alongside fellow liberation movements, including South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC), Mozambique’s FRELIMO, Angola’s MPLA, Namibia’s SWAPO, and Tanzania’s Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).

The summit comes at a time when the region continues to face economic and geopolitical challenges, making coordinated leadership and unified action more critical than ever.
