President Mnangagwa in Nairobi for SADC-EAC Talks on DRC Peace

Southern African Development Community (SADC) Chairperson, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, to participate in a high-level joint meeting between SADC and the East African Community (EAC) focused on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) peace process.
The DRC has endured decades of instability, largely driven by conflicts over political control and natural resources. This joint gathering aims to strengthen coordination between the two regional blocs to support peace and stability in the region.
Speaking in Nairobi, SADC Executive Secretary Mr. Elias Magosi highlighted that the regional peacekeeping mission in the DRC is nearing its conclusion.
In its place, a new facilitation mechanism composed of former heads of state is expected to take over the peace implementation process.
Mr. Magosi also emphasized the importance of this collaborative approach, saying that the convergence of EAC and SADC presents an opportunity to reassess strategies, share insights, and build on past efforts to bring sustainable peace to the DRC.
Previously, the two regional groups had worked independently to resolve the ongoing crisis, but this joint initiative signals a shift towards a more unified response.

President Mnangagwa Hands Over Tractors and Mowers to Air Force of Zimbabwe for Runway Maintenance

The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, this afternoon handed over tractors and mowers to the Air Force of Zimbabwe during a brief ceremony held at State House in Harare.
The equipment is intended to enhance ground maintenance efforts, particularly in mowing grass along the runways at various airbases.
Speaking at the event, Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, Air Marshal Jacob John Nzvede, said the machinery would significantly improve safety and operational efficiency in aviation environments.
“We are going to use the tractors in mowing grass along the runways. As you are aware, in the runway, there will be grass — something that disturbs aviation,” said Air Marshal Nzvede.
The presence of overgrown grass on runways can obstruct visibility, attract birds and other wildlife, and generally compromise airfield safety — issues the new equipment is expected to help resolve.
The donation is in line with ongoing efforts by the Government of Zimbabwe to modernise and strengthen the country’s defence forces, ensuring operational readiness and improved infrastructure.
Today’s handover reaffirms the Second Republic’s commitment to equipping the security sector with tools necessary to maintain both national security and operational standards.
