European Union Ambassador Bids Farewell to Zimbabwean Leaders
The outgoing European Union Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jobst von Kirchmann, has paid farewell visits to senior government leaders as his time in the country comes to an end.
According to the Ministry of Information, he met with Vice President General (Retired) C.G.D.N. Chiwenga earlier today.
“Ambassador von Kirchmann was appointed in 2022 and has served as the EU’s top representative in Zimbabwe. During his time in Harare, he worked to strengthen cooperation between the EU and Zimbabwe. He supported Zimbabwe’s recovery after COVID-19, promoted energy-saving projects, and contributed to various other development programmes,” said Minister J. Muswere.
The ambassador also paid a farewell visit to President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, reflecting the strong diplomatic ties established during his tenure.
These visits come as Zimbabwe continues to strengthen its relationships with international partners. Recently, China signed major agreements with Zimbabwe and donated rice to support food security. Meanwhile, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and USAID have remained key development partners, providing support in areas such as healthcare, food security, and governance.
Relations between the EU and Zimbabwe have improved in recent years, and Ambassador von Kirchmann’s contributions have been widely acknowledged as part of that positive progress.
