Masvingo Cross-Border Traders Welcome Presidential Empowerment Support
Beneficiaries of the Presidential Empowerment Revolving Fund for Cross-Border ED in Masvingo Province have commended the government for its continued efforts to uplift small businesses and strengthen community empowerment.
Cross-border traders from all seven districts of Masvingo began receiving funds under the facility earlier this month, following the official launch of the programme in the province.
One of the recipients expressed gratitude for the financial boost, saying the support would help expand her business. “I am happy to have received US$500 through the Empowerment Fund for Cross Borders for ED. I sell clothes from Botswana and South Africa, and with this money, I will be able to grow my business.
Our hope is that as small traders expand, we will eventually set up small industries and create jobs. We thank the government for recognising us and giving us this opportunity,” she said.
Guest of honour at the event, Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira, urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely.
“We appreciate Cross Borders for ED for ensuring that this support reaches the intended traders. This initiative is designed to transform lives, so we encourage all recipients to put the money to good use for the benefit of the wider community,” he said.
Cross Borders for ED leadership also pledged accountability in managing the fund. National Chairperson Cde David Masomere said, “We are thankful to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his advisor, Dr. Paul Tungwarara, for this support.
Beneficiaries received between US$200 and US$500, and as traders, we are grateful. Our long-term vision is to acquire machinery, establish enterprises, and create employment for others. Mechanisms will be put in place to ensure the fund continues revolving.”
The Presidential Empowerment Revolving Fund is part of a series of empowerment initiatives spearheaded by the government to promote entrepreneurship, stimulate local economies, and reduce unemployment. Earlier this month, affiliates of the programme in Masvingo received a total of US$250,000 under the facility.
