Three Chinese nationals have been brought before the Karoi Magistrates’ Court for working in Zimbabwe without valid work permits, in connection with suspected illicit mining activities.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the trio was arrested on 28 July 2025 for violating environmental regulations related to alluvial mining.

“Three Chinese nationals — Li Taishen (30), Wang Jinyan (57), and Xia Lin (52) — were brought before the Karoi Magistrates’ Court for working in Zimbabwe without valid work permits.

The offenders had established a camp and begun alluvial mining operations along the Anawa River in the Dete area, Kazangarara, Karoi, between July 25 and 28, 2025,” said the NPA.

The accused failed to produce the necessary work permits when asked by authorities.

“The three men have each been fined USD$200 or will serve two months in prison if they fail to pay the fine,” the NPA added.
