Chiyangwa Remanded in Custody For Possession of Drugs
Harare businessman Philip Chiyangwa’s son, Philip Munetsi Chiyangwa (26), was remanded in custody on Wednesday after being arrested for allegedly possessing marijuana worth US$10.
He appeared in court alongside his co-accused, Tanaka Phil Kashambe (25), where they were charged with unlawful possession of drugs.
Prosecutor Mandirisa Chigumira opposed bail, saying the two could abscond since they are facing a serious charge. However, their lawyer, Shepherd Kudzanayi Makonde, argued that both men are businesspersons with strong ties to Zimbabwe and would not flee over such a small amount of marijuana.
Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki postponed the matter to Friday for a bail ruling.
According to the State, detectives from CID Drugs Harare received a tip-off about drug activities at a house in Highlands on 1 October 2025. Around 5:30 pm, the officers moved in and spotted Chiyangwa driving a Toyota Hilux into the property with Kashambe as a passenger.
When the police conducted a search, they allegedly found a sachet of marijuana stashed between the driver’s seat and the handbrake. The pair were arrested, and the drugs were seized and later weighed at Harare Zimpost, where they measured one gram with an estimated street value of US$10.
The case is still under investigation.
