Tocky Vibes Album Launch Flops Despite Star Line-Up

Published

on

Zimdancehall musician Tocky Vibes’ latest album launch turned into a disappointment after only a few fans attended, despite featuring top artists like Killer T and Tamy Moyo.

The show, expected to be a major event, was overshadowed by other big occasions such as the Jacaranda Music Festival and the Chibuku Road to Fame finals, which drew huge crowds. Some fans and music experts blamed poor promotion and bad timing, while others said Tocky’s music style has become too repetitive.

“He’s no longer in touch with the streets. People want something new,” one fan commented online.

However, loyal supporters defended him, saying Tocky remains a Zimdancehall legend who has inspired many.

“Tocky gave us songs that raised a generation. This was just a bad weekend —he will rise again,” another fan said.

After the flop, Tocky Vibes took to social media to express his pain, writing in Shona that it hurt to see some of his close people celebrating his failure.

Despite the setback, many believe the artist can bounce back if he refreshes his sound and reconnects with his audience.

The 2025 edition of the Jacaranda Music Festival brought colour, rhythm, and international collaboration to the Thorn Park Polo Grounds from October 3 to 5, reaffirming its place as one of Zimbabwe’s premier cultural events.

Supported by BET Africa, the British Council Zimbabwe, and several corporate partners, the festival attracted thousands of music enthusiasts for a three-day showcase of local and international talent.

The festival opened on Friday night with an energetic lineup headlined by DJ Spunj and DJ Sox, who set the stage with vibrant sets that ignited the crowd. Jazzworx & Thukuthela blended jazz and electronic rhythms to wide acclaim, while Madeherbelieve delivered a soulful performance that resonated deeply with festivalgoers.

Zimbabwean stars ExQ and DJ Tamuka lit up the stage with a dynamic set tailored for the high-profile event, while South Africa’s Khamo Mpela delivered one of the standout performances of the night with her commanding stage presence and energy.

Sunday’s finale drew massive crowds for an impressive lineup that included Noluntu J, DJ Spunj, and veteran musician Agga Nyabinde, whose performance paid homage to Zimbabwe’s rich musical heritage. South African acapella group The Soil stole the show with their signature Afro-soul harmonies, earning a standing ovation.

Award-winning DJ Lamiez Holworthy thrilled fans with her high-energy mix, prompting calls from the crowd for her return at next year’s Carpe Diem DJ showcase. The festival closed with an electrifying set by South African superstar DJ Tira, who kept the audience dancing until the final beat.

Beyond live performances, the Jacaranda Music Festival also featured a two-day music business conference that provided training, mentorship, and networking opportunities for emerging artists. Industry experts shared insights on music production, rights management, and the regional entertainment market, furthering the event’s goal of strengthening Zimbabwe’s creative economy.

Festival director Tinashe Mutarisi said the 2025 edition reflected the event’s growing influence.

“Jacaranda has become more than just a music festival — it’s a platform for artistic exchange, learning, and community,” he said.

As the curtains closed on the 2025 festival, organizers hailed the event’s success and confirmed that planning for the 2026 edition is already underway.

With its combination of world-class performances, cultural exchange, and professional development, the Jacaranda Music Festival continues to blossom as a key fixture on Zimbabwe’s entertainment calendar.

Dolly Parton’s Sister Clarifies Health Concerns After Fans Express Alarm

Published

on

Country music legend Dolly Parton is recovering after recent health challenges forced her to cancel public appearances and postpone a planned Las Vegas residency. The 79-year-old star’s sister, Freida Parton, has clarified comments that caused widespread concern among fans after she asked for prayers for her famous sibling.

The statement comes days after Dolly announced she had been diagnosed with a kidney stone and needed time off for “a few procedures” to address ongoing medical issues. The singer was scheduled to perform six shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace this December, but those concerts have now been rescheduled for September next year.

Freida Parton had earlier taken to Facebook, sharing that her sister “hasn’t been feeling her best lately” and urging fans to join her in prayer. The post quickly gained attention across social media, with fans expressing worry about Dolly’s health.

However, in a follow-up message, Freida clarified that her initial post was not meant to alarm anyone.

“I want to clear something up. I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious when asking for prayers for Dolly,” she wrote. “She’s been a little under the weather, and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer. It was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister.”

Freida also thanked fans for their support, saying, “Your love truly makes a difference.”

A spokesperson for Dolly Parton confirmed to CBS News, the BBC’s U.S. partner, that the singer will address her fans directly this week through a social media post aimed at easing concerns.

The singer’s recent health setback comes after a difficult period in her personal life. Earlier this year, Parton lost her husband of nearly six decades, Carl Dean. She later paid tribute to him in an emotional song titled If You Hadn’t Been There.

Despite the health concerns, those close to the star remain optimistic. Freida ended her message on a hopeful note, writing:

“She’s strong, she’s loved, and with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she’s going to be just fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you.”

Known for timeless classics such as Jolene, 9 to 5, Coat of Many Colors and I Will Always Love You, Dolly Parton remains one of America’s most celebrated entertainers. Her upcoming Las Vegas residency would mark her first return to the Strip since the 1990s, when she last performed alongside the late Kenny Rogers.

Fans around the world continue to send messages of love and support as the country icon takes time to rest and recover before returning to the stage.
