LET’S TALK ABOUT ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Mugenge Batsi Ndawana
In a time of rapid technological advancement, Artificial Intelligence (AI) stands out as both an exciting opportunity and a potential concern.
The world is moving toward deeper AI integration, making it important to address the uncertainties that come with it especially within the African context.
Consider this: shutting down the internet today would cause massive disruption because businesses, banking, and financial systems depend on it.
Yet not long ago, the internet did not exist. With the rise of AI, a future is emerging where even more systems and businesses will rely on it. This makes understanding AI now extremely important.
Despite its powerful capabilities, AI is not as complex as it may seem. Tools like ChatGPT are often viewed as highly intelligent, yet they function based on structured programming and data. In reality, AI is a powerful tool, not human intelligence.
Entering an AI-driven era requires caution, but not fear. The real risk lies in how humans choose to use or misuse the technology. Harm is more likely to result from human decisions than from AI acting independently.
The responsibility lies in guiding AI with strong ethics and values. Like a blank slate, AI learns from human input. When shaped with fairness, compassion, and responsibility, it can become a force that supports and improves human life.
AI holds immense potential to transform society for the better, but only with responsible use. Promoting ethical AI engagement and educating people on its safe use are key to shaping a positive future.
Moving forward requires intention and awareness. By embedding values such as compassion, empathy, and integrity, society can ensure that AI serves humanity positively.
Ultimately, the future of AI will be defined by human wisdom, ethics, and choices.
