Angolan giants Petro de Luanda have parted ways with Portuguese coach João Pedro Sousa following their 2-0 defeat to Zimbabwean champions Scottland FC in the CAF Champions League.

The decision to dismiss Sousa was reported on Tuesday, October 20, as the Luanda-based club moved to make changes to its technical department.

Sousa’s departure comes after Petro suffered a disappointing result in the first leg of their second preliminary round tie against Scottland at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Sunday.

Petro were reduced to 10 men in the opening minute after goalkeeper Hugo Marques was sent off, before Scottland capitalised to secure a two-goal advantage ahead of the return leg in Angola.

Meanwhile, Portuguese coach Alex Santos is reportedly in talks over a possible return to the Petro de Luanda dugout.

Santos, who previously coached the Angolan giants, is being linked with a second spell at the club as they consider their next move following Sousa’s departure.

However, his potential appointment has yet to be officially confirmed.

Petro will now turn their attention to the return leg as they seek to overturn the deficit and keep their CAF Champions League campaign alive.
