Bulawayo Water Crisis: Government Intervenes with Fact-Finding Visit
By Enia Dube
In a bid to address the persistent water issues plaguing Bulawayo, the Ministry of Local Government has announced a fact-finding visit to the city on September 23, 2024. This move aims to identify sustainable solutions to the crisis, which has been a major concern for residents and city leaders.
The city’s water problems have been ongoing, with residents facing severe shortages and the local authority struggling to meet demand. The government’s intervention comes after repeated calls from the local authority and residents to declare Bulawayo a water crisis area.
Bulawayo City Council Mayor, Senator David Coltart welcomed the government’s intervention, stating, “We appreciate the government’s efforts to address our water challenges. We look forward to working together to find lasting solutions.”
The fact-finding visit will comprise meetings with local authorities, residents, and technical experts. The team will also inspect water treatment plants, reservoirs, and distribution networks.
“We’ve been struggling with water shortages for years. We hope this visit will bring real change,”said Lubelihle Ndlovu, a Bulawayo resident.
“We need sustainable solutions, not temporary fixes. We’re eager to see the government’s plan,” added local business owner, Jack Makoni.
As the government embarks on this critical mission, Bulawayo residents remain hopeful that their water woes will soon be a thing of the past.
