Botswana, Francis Town – In a stunning reversal of fortunes, Harare-based Dynamos suffered a heartbreaking exit from the CAF Confederation Cup, losing 3-1 to Botswana’s Orapa United in a nail-biting penalty shootout. The Zimbabwean side’s collapse under pressure not only ended their continental ambitions but also cost them a lucrative $400,000 windfall.

The first-round encounter had promised so much for Dynamos, who secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the initial leg. However, failure to capitalize on their advantage proved costly. Orapa United leveled the aggregate score 1-1, forcing the match into penalties.

A golden opportunity arose for Dynamos in the first half when they were awarded a penalty within 10 minutes. However, they failed to capitalize, squandering the chance to take a commanding lead.

Dynamos’ usually reliable players crumbled under the intense pressure, missing crucial spot-kicks as Orapa United seized the initiative. The Botswana side’s 3-1 victory in the penalty shootout sent their fans into raptures, while Dynamos players rued their missed opportunities.

Orapa United’s coach, Mogomotsi Mpote, praised his team’s resilience. “We believed in ourselves, even when facing adversity. This victory is a testament to our never-say-die spirit.

The loss marks a bitter end to Dynamos’ CAF Confederation Cup campaign, but the Zimbabwean side will look to regroup and focus on domestic competitions.
