Government Supports Farmers with Presidential Stock Feed Program Amidst Drought

Farmers in the Gungwe community under Chief Mathe have received a significant boost from the government to combat the El Nino-induced drought. The Presidential Stock Feed Program has delivered a tonne of hay bales and 30.8 tonnes of silage to support their livestock.

“We are grateful to President Emmerson Mnangagwa for fulfilling his promise to support our farmers during this difficult time,this timely intervention will go a long way in the fight against hunger and ensures food security for our communities,” said Gwanda South MP and Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Hon. Dr. Omphile Marupi. 

Dr. Marupi emphasized the government’s commitment to mitigating the effects of drought. “Our President has demonstrated his unwavering dedication to the welfare of our people, particularly in rural areas. This initiative is a testament to his leadership.”
 

The Presidential Stock Feed Program is part of the government’s comprehensive measures to address the drought’s impact on agriculture and livestock. By providing essential resources to farmers, the program aims to, Protect livestock from starvation, promote sustainable agriculture practices, enhance food security in rural areas vulnerable to climate change.
 

“This support will enable our farmers to maintain their livestock and prepare for the upcoming planting season,We urge farmers to make the most of this opportunity and work towards a successful harvest ” Dr. Marupi explained.

The initiative complements other government programs, including,Solar-powered irrigation schemes, crop and livestock insurance,climate-resilient agriculture trainings.
