In a move to improve road and traffic safety, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development has introduced new restrictions for kombi transport operators.

In a statement released by the Ministry, kombi operators will no longer go beyond a radius of 60km. Previously kombi operators could travel up to a 120km radius.

Furthermore kombi operators are no longer allowed to operate without speed limiting devices in their vehicles. This condition is believed to help reduce the chances of accident caused by over speeding on the roads.

“I wish to make a clarion call to all our stakeholders of the road traffic ecosystem, including motorists, transport operators and passengers to be more vigilant against road traffic violations, especially over speeding, overloading and the use of unroadworthy vehicles” said the Honourable Felix Mhona, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development.

The new law will apply to new operators seeking permits from the ministry. Those with valid operating permits will be exempted until they expire.
