South Africa honours fallen heroes and heroines

South Africa has paid tribute to its fallen heroes and heroines by issuing death certificates for the 49 liberation fighters whose remains were repatriated from Zimbabwe.

These brave individuals sought refuge in Zimbabwe during the apartheid era, escaping the dangers faced by anti-apartheid activists in South Africa. 

The repatriation and issuance of death certificates are significant milestones in recognizing the sacrifices made by these freedom fighters. Their remains were brought back to South Africa, allowing their families and the nation to honour their contributions to the country’s struggle for democracy.

The 49 repatriated fighters, along with countless others, played crucial roles in shaping South Africa’s history and fighting for freedom. Yesterday, 49 remains of South African liberation fighters were sent from Zimbabwe to South Africa.
