The United Nations has thrown its weight behind Zimbabwe’s bold vision to become an upper-middle-income economy by 2030. This endorsement comes as a significant boost to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration, which has been working tirelessly to revive the country’s economy.

During a recent meeting with Zimbabwean officials, UN representatives praised the country’s National Development Strategy (NDS1), which outlines a comprehensive roadmap for achieving upper-middle-income status. The strategy focuses on promoting economic growth, reducing poverty, and improving living standards.

“The UN is committed to supporting Zimbabwe’s development aspirations, We believe that the NDS1 provides a solid foundation for the country’s economic transformation.”said UN Resident Coordinator Maria Ribeiro.

Zimbabwe aims to increase its GDP per capita from $1,300 to $3,500 by 2030, creating a more prosperous and inclusive society. Key sectors identified for growth include agriculture, mining, tourism, and manufacturing.

The UN’s backing is expected to attract foreign investment, enhance international cooperation, and provide technical assistance to Zimbabwe.
