Zimbabwe’s third-largest city Mutare, strategically located in the heart of eastern Zimbabwe is boasting immense of economic potential. It’s abundant natural resources and favorable business environment makes Kumakomoyo a key economic hub, which drives economic growth and development in the region.

The city’s economy is anchored by several key sectors, including agriculture, mining, tourism, and manufacturing. The agricultural sector, in particular, offers vast potential, with fertile soils and favorable climate conditions.

According to a local farmer, Innocent Mandova, “Mutare’s agricultural sector offers a vast potential in growing the economy and a diversification into value-added products, that can boost exports.”

Mutare’s rich deposits of gold, diamonds, and other minerals, makes the city an attractive destination for mining investments. Kumakomoyo breathtaking landscapes, scenic vistas, and cultural heritage sites also beckon tourists, offering opportunities for hospitality and tourism infrastructure development. 

Dr. Kudzai Mubaiwa, an economist, emphasize that streamlining regulatory processes and improving infrastructure are crucial to unlocking Mutare’s growth. He added, “Streamlining regulatory processes and improving infrastructure will unlock Mutare’s growth.” 

Mutare faces challenges, including infrastructure deficits, regulatory hurdles, and skills gaps.
