Zimbabwe face Cameroon in AFCON qualifier
The Zimbabwe warriors are back in action against the Indomitable lions of Cameroon on match day 2 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Zimbabwe come into this game after playing to a nil all draw against Kenya at the Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda. Kenya had their home match in Uganda because of having no stadium that matches AFCON standards.
Zimbabwe will also play their home match at the same stadium due to the same reasons and will not have the home fans advantage getting into todays match.
Speaking on the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) social media page, Marshall Munetsi, warriors captain said they will try and win the match.
“For us the most important thing since we will be playing at home is to try get maximum points and do our best” said Munetsi.
The skipper also appreciated the return of Khama Billiat because it brings the necessary experience upfront. “ You saw with Khama Billiat when he came back, we needed that much experience going forward and most of us have been playing African football for a very long time. We just need to utilize that experience and also learn from the coaches around us” said Munetsi.
The new coach, Michael Nees, is still hunting for his first win with the warriors after inheriting a team that hasn’t tasted victory nor played at home for a while now.
Cameroon come into this match with a victory on their backs after edging Namibia 1-0 at home and will look to keep the momentum against a tricky Zimbabwean side. The last time these two teams played was at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon were Zimbabwe lost 1-0 to the host.
No drastic changes are expected to the line up from Nees as he continues to build the team full of youngsters and a touch of experience from the likes of Khama and Munetsi.
Kick off 6pm CAT and the match will be broadcast live on ZBC.
