Zimbabwe Rolls Out Mass Drug Administration Campaign to Tackle Bilharzia and Soil-Transmitted Helminths

The Ministry of Health and Child Care is launching a nationwide campaign to combat Bilharzia and soil-transmitted Helminths infections. The campaign will commence from October 7th to 21st and the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) initiative will target children aged 2 to 15 years in Mutasa District.
This critical health intervention aims to reduce the prevalence of these debilitating diseases, improve public health outcomes, and empower local communities through education.
Bilharzia and soil-transmitted Helminths infections pose significant health risks, particularly among children. By administering deworming medication, the campaign seeks to prevent anemia, malnutrition, and impaired cognitive development,reduce school absenteeism and improve educational outcomes, enhance community awareness and engagement in health issues.
Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy (NDS1) and Vision 2030 prioritize public health initiatives. This campaign demonstrates the government’s commitment to protect its citizens, especially vulnerable children.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care urges parents, guardians, and community leaders to support the campaign, ensuring every eligible child receives treatment.
