Cde Cephas Ncube comes out triumphant as the new National Liberation War Veterans Association

In a decisive victory for Comrade Cephas Ncube who was elected the new chairperson of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association at a congress held in Gweru this Saturday demonstrates the confidence the association has in his leadership.

Cde Ncube secured his position from his three other contenders after garnering 294 votes, followed by Cde Albert Ncube who secured 90 votes, with Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Cde Victor Matemadanda scoring 75 votes, and the outgoing Chairperson Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa only polled 11 votes. 

The National executive which was elected, were Cde Shorai Nyamangondo as (Vice Chairperson), Cde Joel Murerengwa (Secretary General), Cde Thomas Manyima ( Legal Affairs), Cde Vincent Chinone (Transport), Cde Section Ncube (Finance), Cde Sanik Nguni (Security) Cde Nyembesi Togara (women affairs) and Cde Samuel Parirenyatwa as Political Commisar. 

The elective congress is in line with the association’s constitutional requirements. This election marks a significant milestone for the association which has played a vital role in Zimbabwe 

In his acceptance speech, Cde Ncube said he was elated to be entrusted to lead the association, promising to represent all the war stalwarts. 

“I am very happy with the trust that has been bestored on me by my fellow Cdes and I promise to work very hard with everyone as we take our association foward. I will soon be engaging everyone so that we remain as vibrant as before as an association,” he said. 

Outgoing Secretary General, Cde Victor Matemadanda said they accepted the results and will work hand in glove and with the new executive to steer the association ahead.

“I want to firstly thank all the cdes for the support they gave us for all these years when we were in the executive, we will continue to work together as an association, advocating for our welfare and everything else,” he said. 

The elections were held ahead of the 21st ZANU PF Annual National People’s Conference slated for Bulawayo on the 22nd of October 2024.
